Service Description

Term 4 2026: 8 weekly classes on Mondays, 6:30pm to 9:00pm at New Farm Community Hall (12, 19 and 26 October; 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 November), then our end-of-year production day on Sunday 13 December at S.P.A.C.E in Kenmore. 9 sessions, booked by term. Production day: every FilmLab class comes together for one shooting day with cinematographer Nigel Jones. Each student performs an original scene, written for the day and rehearsed in class beforehand, working alongside actors from the other classes. Everyone gets their own raw footage (the uncut takes) after the day, and the best moments from the whole day are cut into a featured episode, the start of an ongoing FilmLab web series. Joining after Friday 30 October? Scenes are written and cast by then, so the production day you would miss becomes a free class in Term 1 2027. Learning Outcome Highlights * How to be more autonomous as an actor (how to recognise when there is a barrier in a scene and how to become self-aware, along with fixing these problems) * Enunciation, and a more thorough look at any accent barriers which may prove as a barrier to believability (if the actor themselves believes this to be so) * Acting in a scene with another actor, focussing heavily on subtext and believability in a scene * More focus on delivering feedback * Revision - how to approach an audition * How voice acting differs from film acting * Voice acting in multiple disciplines (Film voice-over, animation, documentary, etc) * Theory involved in voice acting (equipment etc) * Practical learning
